Virginia A. Steensgaard (1919-2005)

WATERLOO — Virginia A. Steensgaard, 85, of Taos, N.M.. formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005. She was born June 20, 1919, daughter of George and Myrtle Conway.

Mrs. Steensgaard and her husband owned and operated the Dewar Hardware Store. She was also a proud member of the Masonic Temple.

Survivors include her husband, Jens R. Steensgaard; a son, Gary Richard (Doris) of Ruidoso, N.M.; two grandchildren, Mark (Keeler) Steensgaard of St. Louis and Mary Ann (Adam) Virginia Steensgaard Ferguson of Taos; and three great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jonathan Steensgaard and Sierra Ferguson. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Conway; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Steensgaard in 2003.

Memorial services were Wednesday evening at Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home, Taos.

Memorials may be directed, in lieu of flowers, to Shriner's Hospital, 12545 Fee Fee Road, St. Louis, MO 63146, or the Taos Feral Feline Friends, P.O. Box 1926, Ranches de Taos, NM 87557. Anyone knowing Virginia knew how much she loved cats. The Taos Feral Feline Friends is an organization that her granddaughter works with closely.
