WATERLOO - Louis E. Apling Sr., 82, of Waterloo, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Allen Hospital after a short illness.

He was born March 22, 1923, in Waterloo, son of Louis W. and Vera Woodrum Apling. He married Norma Irons on Oct. 24, 1953, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death Jan. 10, 1997.

Mr. Apling retired from the Waterloo John Deere Tractor Works in 1977 after 31 years in the chip and grind department.

Survived by four sons: Louis Jr. (Connie), Jon (Angel) and Andrew, all of Waterloo, and Tim (Deb) of Washburn; four daughters: Louise Nation of Sumner, Vera Sue (Randy) Magee and Allene (Burton) Rossow, both of Waterloo, and Jennifer (Ray) Carlson of Castalia; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty (Bob) Wescom of Rockford, Ill.

Preceded in death by a brother, Upton; and a sister, Elma Hansen.

Graveside services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Poyner Township Cemetery. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements,
