Charles J. Lantz, age 89 of Lenoir City, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at his home. He was a very devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. Charles received his Masters Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a retired divisional superintendent with John Deere. Charles was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Lenoir City and the Cleveland, Ohio, Masonic Lodge. He served in the Eighth Air Force during World War II completing 28 missions as a B17 radio operator.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Neva Lantz, and his sisters, Ruth Oliver and Neta Dixon.

Survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Lantz; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Gary and Emily Lantz of Lafayette, Ind., Dr. Gregory and Susan Lantz of Cedar Falls; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Daniel Lathrop of Knoxville; grandchildren: Mark Lantz and wife Heidi of Columbus, Ohio, Steven Lantz and wife Soah of Seoul, South Korea, Andrew Lantz and wife Amy of Rolling Meadows, Ill., David Lantz and wife Emily of Houston, Texas, Paul Lantz of Cedar Falls, John Lantz of Waterloo, Stephanie Fiser and husband Andrew of Coralville, Annie Lantz of Waterloo and Todd Lathrop of Knoxville; seven great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway in Knoxville, Tenn., with the Rev. Micah Nicolaus and the Rev. Ron Fisher officiating. Military honors will be conferred. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 301 Hickory Creek Road, Lenoir City, TN 37771.
