CEDAR FALLS — Richard A. “Dick” Bruns Jr., 80, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Windhaven Assisted Living Center of natural causes.

He was born May 18, 1932, in Waverly, son of Richard A. and Ethel A. Boveia Bruns. He married Shirley Mueller on March 15, 1953, in Waverly.

Mr. Bruns graduated from Waverly High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He then attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. He was employed at Sunnyside Country Club, Waterloo, and in 1958 became employed by the city of Cedar Falls. He was director of parks and cemeteries and was in charge of city golf courses, city arborist and riverfront operations, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Jeff (DeAnne) and Joe (Lisa), both of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Julie Bruns of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim of Carthage, Mo., and Jack (Barbara) of Brunswick, Ga.

Celebration of Life services: 11 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial and military honors at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Western Home Communities.
