At the Emergency hospital Saturday afternoon shortly before 5 o'clock occurred the death of Stephen F. Salisbury one of the earliest settlers and one of the best known and most highly respected residents of Waterloo.

Mr. Salisbury had been ill for several days and had at last decided to permit an operation. He was taken to the hospital, being able to walk from his conveyance up the steps, of the institution, but then became exhausted and died in a short time.

Mrs. Salisbury and all save one of the five daughters were away from home and knew nothing of Mr, Salisbury's illness. The news was sent to Mrs. Salisbury and two of the daughters in Chicago and they arrived here yesterday morning. The sudden death has struck as a sudden blow to all members of the family and their grief is great.

Mr. Salisbury was a veteran of the civil war. He had also served the city of Waterloo as a member of the city council. The funeral services will be held at the home 514 Almond Street, this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. S. Jallen will officiate.
