ELK RUN HEIGHTS - Louis J. Strubel Jr., 80, of Elk Run Heights, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Rosewood Estates, Waterloo.
He was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Oelwein, son of Louis J. Sr. and Gladys Smith Strubel. He married Carroll Hall on June 3, 1956, in Oelwein.
Mr. Strubel served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Confl ict. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, later the Chicago Northwestern, as the roundhouse foreman for 39 years.
Survived by his wife; a son, Lance (Cindi) of Eatonville, Wash.; two daughters, Nancy (David) Schipper of Plainfi eld and Laura (Mark) Paulsen of Lake Travis, Texas; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Nancy (Ken) Dalen of Evansdale.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the Iowa Army National Guard Military Honors Detail. Visitation 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
