John W. Kortemeyer Sr.

Services for John W. Kortemeyer Sr., 62, of Scotch Grove, formerly of Waterloo, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

There, will be a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday scripture service at Oppold Funeral Home where friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday. He died Sunday evening at Schoitz Memorial Hospital of cancer.

He was born Dec. 3, 1913, near Winthrop, the son of Elmer and Edna Wise Kortemeyer. He married Garnetta Klein April 10,1937, in Waterloo.

He retired from John Deere Research Center June 1 after 30 years. He served with the Navy during World War II as a civil inspector.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Jr. of Scotch Grove and Michael of Chariton; a daughter, Mrs. Leon Gronoski of Eastgate Estates, Waterloo; his mother, Mrs. Edna Kortemeyer of 502 Campbell Ave.; two sisters, Mrs. Irma McCarty of 502 Campbell Ave., and Mrs. Elanore Erickson of Blanding, Utah; and three brothers: William Kortemeyer of Blanding, Utah, Elmer Kortemeyer Jr. of 3104 Grand Blvd., Cedar Falls, and Richard Kortemeyer of Monticello.
