CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Dolores A. Carter, 80, of Cedar Falls died Saturday, January 14, 2006, at her home.

She was born January 20, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph I. and Daisy A. Lindahl Gray. She married David L. "Pete" Carter on Feb. 25, 1948, in Plattsmouth, Neb. He died May 21, 1976.

Mrs. Carter was a registered nurse graduating from Allen Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She worked in veterans hospitals in Des Moines, Cook County and Houston and worked at Schoitz Hospital from 1958 to 1966. She was director of nursing at the Red Cross for 22 years and established the Blood Mobile program in Northeast Iowa in 1966.

In 1986 the De Carter Nursing Award was established for volunteer nurses. She was inducted in the Allen Nursing Association Hall of Fame in May 2001. She was an active member of Green Scene.

Survivors include three sons: Lynn of Knoxville, Tenn., Paul (Cathy) of Roselle, Ill., and John (Patti) of Grimes; six grandchildren: Jennifer (David) Carter, Jonathan (Courtney) Carter, Channing Carter, Laura De Carter, Abby (Matt) Snowberger and Betsy Carter; and a great-grandchild, Jackson David Carter.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Boyd Gray.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Green Scene or Allen College of Nursing.
