EVANSDALE, IOWA -- Marlin J. "Mike" Raney, 73, of 115 Eldene Court, died at home Wednesday, February 23, of cancer.

He was born November 17, 1926, in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, son of Harry and Gertrude Forney Brehm, and was raised by foster parents, Walter and Gertrude Kramer Raney. He married Kathleen Speer on December 27, 1947, in La Porte City, Iowa.

Mr. Raney was employed at John Deere Tractor Works for eight years; worked 30 years at Hawkeye Steel; and worked in the assembly department for Waterloo Industries for six years, retiring in 1992. For the past eight years he was a door greeter for Wal-Mart in Cedar Falls. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Michael of Elk Run Heights; four daughters, Barbara Steveson of Brighton, Colo., Susan Jones of Westminster, Colo., Diane Shaner of Vinton and Janet Raney of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgrandsons; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Brehm of Columbia, Md.; and four half sisters, Mary Myers of Canton, Ohio, Edith Varner and Brooke Robertson, both of Middletown, and Shirley Brinser of Elizabeth, Pa.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Charles, Earl and Harry Brehm; and two sisters, Dorothy Brehm, and his twin, N. Jean Berkheimer.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church, Waterloo, with burial in Geneseo Methodist Church cemetery, Buckingham. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
