ESTERS, MICOU, RAY, CARSON

WATERLOO — Deacon James L. "Jim" Esters, 100*, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born May 8, 1913, in Kosciusko, Miss., son of Nathan Esters and Emma Micou. He married Bessie Ray on Aug. 20, 1938, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death.

He was retired from Rath Packing Co. as a mechanic in the Mill Wright Department.

Survived by a son, Patrick J. Esters of Waterloo; a grandson, Traiell Esters; three brothers: Nathaniel (Rainey) Estes of Denver, Colo., Luther (Louria) Estes of Pueblo West, Colo., and Ulice (Phyllis) Estes of Detroit.

Preceded in death by a brother, Governor Estes; and a sister, Mabel Carson.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Sanders Funeral Service and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 1022 Cottage St., where they will be receiving friends.

Jim loved his church, Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He is loved by his family and friends, and was a proud man who said his love for God had sustained him all these years.
