Merle Fagerlind Dies at age 45

Funeral services are pending at the Locke Funeral Home for Merle K. Fagerlind, 45, of 2218 Castle Street, Waterloo, who died at his home Friday evening at 8 p.m. of a heart attack.

He was born on November 3, 1925 in Waterloo, the son of Dewey and Rose Wilson Fagerlind.

He married Beverly E. Volker on January 25, 1945 in Cedar Falls. He served in World War II and in the Korean War. He was the holder of 18 battle stars and earned the Bronze Star in World War II. He was employed as a property administrator for the city of Waterloo.Mr. Fagerlind was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and of Becker-Chapman Post No. 138 of the American Legion.

He is survived by his widow, two sons, Charles and Kevin at home; one daughter, Dena at home; four sisters, Mrs. Richard Sloan of Independence and Mrs. John Scribner, 2710 Lafayette Street; Mrs. James Heyer of Norfolk, Virginia and Miss Judy Fagerlind of Independence, and one brother, Edward of Rt 3.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Merle Jr., killed in action in Vietnam in 1967 and one brother.

Friends may call at the Locke Funeral Home and those who wish may contribute to a memorial fund, established in his name at Grace Lutheran Church.

Services will be at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church for Merle Fagerlind, 45, of 2218 Castle Street, who died Friday at his home of a heart attack.

The Rev. Edgar C. Kruse pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Waterloo Cemetery with military rites by Becker-Chapman Post 138 of the American Legion. Friends may call at Locke Funeral Home.
