JAMES BACKEN

Services for James (Buddy) Backen, 42, of 812 McCoy Rd., Evansdale, who died at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday of a heart attack while on the way to work, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at O'Keefe and Town Funeral Home.
The Rev. Harry E. Turner pastor of Faith Assembly of God Church, Elk Run Heights, will officiate, and burial will be in the Waterloo Cemetery.

Mr. Backen was born August 19, 1928, in Waterloo, the son of Olaf and Catherine Gill Backen. He served in the Navy during World War II. In. 1947 he was married to Mildred White and later divorced. He was married to. Helen Mclaughlin in 1964 and later divorced.

Mr.. Backen was a member of Local 89 of the Iron Workers and was employed by the Holman Erection Company of Cedar Rapids.

Survivors are his father, 812 McCoy Rd.; five sons: James of Maquoketa, Ronald of Tustin Calif., Buddy of Vietnam Michael of 240 McKay St., and Craig of 2202 Byron St.; one daughter, Mrs. Vickie Hintz of 1037 Conger St.; three grandchildren; one brother, Ronald of Magnolia, Illinois, and one sister Mrs. Beverly Anderson of 200 Gilbert Dr., Elk Run Heights.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
