WATERLOO, IOWA — Maxine L. Westin, 91, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Manor Care Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Minneapolis, daughter of Carl and Marie V. Gandy Bakke. She married William Demarest on Nov. 6, 1942, in Battle Creek, Mich. He preceded her in death. She later married Roland C. Westin on Oct. 26, 1946, in Mason City. He died Nov. 9, 2000.

Mrs. Westin graduated from high school in Hayfield, Minn. She was a homemaker and also worked as a waitress at the Conway Inn for five years. She was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church.

Survived by three sons, Thomas Demarest of Jacksonville, N.C., and Allan and Richard Westin, both of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Maurice Bakke of Virginia.

Preceded in death by a sister, Donna Bruck; and a brother, Wallace Bakke.

Memorial services: will be held at a later date, with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
