WATERLOO, IOWA — Betty Jean Bates, 84, of Waterloo, died Friday, February 8, 2013, at Allen Hospital.

She was born on October 19, 1928, in Lime Springs, daughter of Michael and Ida Mae Mav Bronner. She married Charles Hruska and they later divorced. On December 1, 1989, she married Lawrence Bates. He died July 22, 1997.

Mrs. Bates worked at Rath Packing Co. for 34 years.

Survived by two daughters, Karen (Jess) Morris and Janie Hruska, both of Waterloo; a son, Terry Hruska of La Porte City; a stepson, Michael Bates of Waterloo; two stepdaughters, Sharon Wolf and Sherry Peters, both of Waterloo; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Edith Benson of Cresco, Marcella Haskovec and Marilyn Nicholas, both of Lime Springs, and Elsie Pint of Phoenix; and a brother, Arnold Bronner of Sun City, Ariz.

Preceded in death by a grandson; four sisters, Lydia Howard, Lorraine Geiken, Dorothy Rucker and Geraldine Price; and three brothers, William, Henry and Earl Bronner.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.
