Dr. Russell W. Brown: "Doc" passed away peacefully Jan. 11, 2013, on his 94th birthday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with his grandson, David Russell Briggs, and his wife, Lisa, at his side. Russell was born on Jan. 11, 1919, in Orange Township to William and Vida Mildred (Miller) Brown. He was preceded in his death by his older brothers, Glenn, Guy and Alvin, and sisters Agnes and Caroline. His younger brother Wayne lives in Florida.

Russell graduated from Orange High School in 1937 and Iowa State University Veterinary Medical School. Upon graduation he and his wife, Jean, deceased, moved to Storm Lake, where he had a small and large animal practice, served as USDA Meat and Poultry Inspector, founded Professional Veterinary Pharmaceutical and Supply Co., and raised two daughters, Brenda and Leigh. Brenda has three daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Scott, Marjo and Matt and Emily and Ryan. Leigh and husband Ron have two children, David and wife Lisa and Lisbeth and husband Paul. Russell had nine great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons.

A celebration of life service will be announced in the spring with inurnment in Orange Township Cemetery. Arrangements by Locke Funeral Home, 233-6138.
