WATERLOO — Elmer W. Schnering, 92, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at home.

He was born June 25, 1920, in Cedar Falls, and raised in Waverly at the Lutheran Orphanage from infancy to age 15, when he went to live with his uncle in Cedar Falls. He married Delphine Haes Elmore in October 1956. She died in 1986.

Mr. Schnering served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Guadalcanal, and was employed with Chamberlain Manufacturing before and after the war, for a total of 45 years.

Survived by two daughters, Mimi Stern and Barbara Hoppes, both of Waterloo; a son, Dave (Lonnie) Elmore of Waterloo; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Sue Watson; and a son-in-law, Patrick L. Hoppes.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Service. Private burial will occur in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice of Waterloo.
