Funeral services for John Harig, 78 of Gilbertville, IA who died last night at St. Francis hospital, will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception church, Gilbertville, IA. Rev. Fr. Mayer will officiate while burial will be in Gilbertville Catholic cemetery.

Mr. Harig, whose death came at 9:30 p.m. from kidney trouble and complications from which he had suffered many years, was born in Obbermmel, Germany, October 22, 1850. He came to America and settled in Gilbertville, in 1868, beginning and following the business of a butcher. In 1870 he was married to Isadora Marx. The couple were to have celebrated their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary Aug. 12.

Mr. Harig retired 10 years ago. Last October Mrs. Harig fell and suffered the fracture of a leg and arm. For the last several months, Mr. Harig had resided at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Grebien, Route 8, Waterloo.

Surviving besides Mrs. Harig, Gilbertville, are four daughters and three sons: Mrs. Joseph Schlosser, Revillo, SD; Mrs. Jacob Brever, Washburn, IA.; Mrs. Louis Vollenweider, 127 Quincy Street; Mrs. Carl Grebien, Route 8; Nick Harig, St. Louis, MO; P.J. Harig, Flagstaff, AZ; and T.F. Harig, Grand Forks, ND.

He was preceded in death by one son, John.
