[Waterloo Courier, Wednesday, January 23, 2013]

Sherri Linn Dietz was born July 1, 1968, in Waterloo, the daughter of Dennis and Barbara (Eastman) Dietz. She graduated from Waterloo West High School with the class of 1987. She then attended Kirkwood College, Cedar Rapids, and Hawkeye Community College, Waterloo. Sherri volunteered many years at Covenant Medical Center. She was then employed as a receptionist at American Red Cross for 10 years and most recently Goodwill Industries of Iowa as a receptionist. From the beginning, Sherri was our miracle from God. She taught us so many lessons of life; i.e. patience, perseverance, endurance and forgiveness. Sherri was a blessing to all who knew her. We are grateful for all the love and kindness extended to her throughout her life. She was an avid sports fan ... loving her football, basketball and ice hockey. Because of her love for the Lord, she is now walking and dancing in Heaven.

Sherri passed away on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications following surgery, at the age of 44.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Wally and Berenice Dietz Patten, and her stepgrandfather, Carl Patten.

Sherri is survived by her parents, Dennis and Barbara Dietz of Waterloo; two brothers, Doug (Carol) Dietz of Waterloo and Robert (Linda) Dietz of Dows; maternal grandparents, Bob and Louise Eastman; nieces and nephews, Adam Kerns, Katie (Ryan) Meyer, Jordan Dietz, Carter Dietz and Sophie Dietz; a great-niece Ava Meyer; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital or March of Dimes.
