Willard C. Dale, 92, of Rosewood Estates, died on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at home. He was born on March 26, 1916, in Dewer, the son of Sam and Mary Ann Carroll Dale.

He married Mary Dowd on August 28, 1943, in Waterloo, Iowa. She died on October 12, 1998.

Mr. Dale was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed as a route salesman with Cedarside Dairy, Hometown Dairy, Daisy Dairy, and Carnation Dairy, retiring in 1979. Following retirement he was a deliveryman for Rainbow Florists and Petels & Curls Beauty and Flower Shop. He was a charter member and Past Grand Knight of Council 11192 of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ellen Dale of Waterloo and Kathleen (James Jeude) Dale of Parsippany, New Jersey; three grandchildren: Rachel, Omega, and Jordan; and a sister Betty Erquist of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell, and a sister, Dorothy.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Queen Of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31 and by Waterloo Amvets Post 19. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 5 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to the Amenity Hospice.
