CEDAR FALLS — James E. “Jim” Dow, 80, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Waterloo, son of Edward and Grace Shannon Dow. He married Vera Christensen on Aug. 17, 1954, in Waterloo.

Mr. Dow served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked in the machine shop at Viking Pump Co. prior to his employment as supervisor with John Deere. He owned and operated Dow Gunsmiths for more than 40 years.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Steve and Tim, both of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Susan (Doug) Iver of St. Charles, Mo., and Teresa (Jeff Pratt) Bolin of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Connie (Ed) Waitek of Oxford, Ind., and Genemarie Baker of Lady Lake, Fla.; and a brother, Bud of Summerfield, Fla.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
