Marvin Terry Durnin, 49, of Waukon, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, July 11, 1996, at Covenant Medical Center of cancer.

He was born Oct. 3, 1946, son of Marvin E. and Mary L. Lahmon Durnin. He married Anna M. Renslow Nov. 11, 1967, in Waterloo.

He was a 1964 West Waterloo High School graduate and a 1965 Waterloo Barber College graduate. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, entering in 1966 and retiring in 1986. He served for a year in Vietnam and received two Purple Hearts. Following Vietnam, he was an X-ray technician and for the last four years of his military career was an instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center for the medical corpsman school.

He later was employed by the Veterans Adminstration Hospital, Iowa City, and had been a supervisor of the X-ray department at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon. He recently was employed by Reel-Cor Inc., Waukon.

Survived by his wife; a son, T.J. Durnin of Waukon; a daughter, Faye Manning, and her husband Bill, of Waukon; a grandson, Kamen Durnin of Waukon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Dunfee of Waterloo; a brother, Wayne Durnin of Coshocton, Ohio; a sister, Suan [Susan Ann] Bowers of Waterloo; his father, Marvin E. Durnin of Waterloo; and a stepbrother, Dean Dunfee of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Faron Durnin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman Post 138 American Legion and Waterloo Post 1623 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the church for an hour before services.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
