Eldred "Al" Dunfee, 81, of Waterloo, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Covenant Medical Center from complications of surgery.

He was born Dec. 23, 1915, in Corwith, son of George Enos and Mary Eva Farrell Dunfee. He married Mary L. Lahmon on Oct. 31, 1958, in Tennessee.

Mr. Dunfee served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed at Deere & Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1976.

Survived by his wife, four sons: Gary of Beaver Creek, Ore., Dean of Waterloo, Wayne of Sedalia, Mo., and Ross of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Suan Bowers of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother of Kanawa; two brothers, Willard "Bud" of Corwith and Donald "Don" of Waterloo; and a sister, Glenice Olson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Terry; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Maxine Tegland.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Full miliary rites will be conducted by Becker-Capman American Legion Post 138 and Waterloo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Lung Association.
