WATERLOO — Jerry D. Eckhardt, of Brooklyn, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, of mesothelioma.

He was born June 17, 1941, in Traer, son of Dean and Irene Christiansen Eckhardt.

He attended Tama County Schools. He served 1960 to 1968 in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Eckhardt retired from Pepsi-Cola in 1999 as a vending manager after 30 years of employment. After retirement he and his wife moved to Holiday Lake in Brooklyn and spent their winters in Safety Harbor, Fla.

Survived by his wife, Nancy; a daughter, Kimberly (Darin) Doerr, two sisters, Karen Coke of Keokuk and Patricia Thede of Waterloo; three stepchildren: Ronald (Patricia) McCullough Jr., Michael McCullough and Leah Creswell; and five grandchildren: Nicholas McCullough, Maggie McCullough, Austin Pates, Konner Crew and Jakob Creswell.

Memorial services will take place in Iowa at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved life and could always find humor in any situation.
