WATERLOO — David E. Tansey, 77, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of complications of lung cancer.

He was born March 14, 1935, in Waterloo, son of Lee and Ruth Reed Tansey. He married Marilyn Pearson on May 28, 1955, in Waterloo. She died Jan. 25, 2004. He then married Karen Mitchell on June 3, 2005, in Reinbeck.

Mr. Tansey was the assistant to the publisher of the Waterloo Courier and was in charge of display advertising. He also was a past member of the board of directors of Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and Waterloo Downtown Council, president of Midwest Advertising and Marketing Association, treasurer of Eastern Iowa Designated Marketing Area Inc. and Metro Iowa, Plus Inc., exhibit chairman and member of the board of directors of International Newspaper Advertising Association and marketing committee member of Iowa Newspaper Association. After retirement he became president of S.C.O.R.E. until 2012.

Survived by his wife; a son, Mike (Cathy) of Phoenix; two stepsons, Jeff (Heather) Greiner of Grundy Center and John Greiner of Dinsdale; two daughters, Jennifer Tansey of West Des Moines and Lori (Mike) McCarvel of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Kelly (Derek) Hileman of Grain Valley, Mo.; a brother, Gail of Cedar Falls; a sister, Beverly (Ken) Witt of Evansdale; three grandchildren, Jesse, Alyssa and Madison McCarvel; six stepgrandchildren, Nicki and Brandi, Bryce and Trent Greiner and Taylor and Jack Hileman.

Preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Danielson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Central Christian Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church building fund.
