WATERLOO, IOWA — Paul Edward Gorton, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, December 30, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was born June 21, 1945, in Waterloo, son of Walter and Pauline Klipping Gorton. He married Marie Lentz on January 15, 1966, in Newport, R.I.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Gorton recently retired and was a former owner of Trace Machine and Tools in Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Cindy (Dan) Martin of Cedar Rapids and Michele (Richard) Mumm of Walford; a son, Robert of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren: Taryn and Bryce Meeker, Avery and McKenna Mumm and Alex Gorton; a brother, Tom (Joanne) of Waterloo and Bob (Susan) of Marion; a sister, Cheryl (Dale) Dutcher of Rosburg, Wash., and Joan (Jerry) Butler of Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Private family memorial services: were held Monday at St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church. He donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for scientific purpose. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids, was in charge of arrangements.

Paul loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed archery, building bows, hunting, the Green Bay Packers, going on walks and being in the woods. He was a man of undying faith.
