OF EDITOR, DIES

Prominent in Church, Club and
Literary Circles; 86 Years of Age.

Mrs. Frances M. Parrott 86, widow of Matt Parrott, long the editor of the Waterloo Reporter and lieutenant governor of Iowa, died at 8 a. m. today at her home, 415 Third Street east, of ailments due to advanced age. She had been in failing health for several months.

Mrs. Parrott was prominent in church, club and literary circles of Waterloo, for many years. She assisted in the organization of the Women's club and of Christ Episcopal Church parish.

She was a great traveler, and, with her husband, had visited many remote sections of the world, as well as all parts of America.

Mrs. Parrott was a writer of Statewide Note and in the early days endeared herself to thousands of women in the rural districts by articles published under the caption of "Aunt Lucy's Talks." Stories of her travels, both written and spoken, were much in demand. She was a member of the Waterloo library board for several years.

Frances Maria Field was born at Ypsilanti, Michigan, Sept. 19, 1841. With her parents, she removed to Davenport, la., in 1856. On Oct. 25, 1859, she was married, at Davenport, to Matthias Parrott. He was a printer at the time.

In 1869 the family, then consisting of two boys. William F. and Louis G., moved to Waterloo, where Mr. Parrott purchased the Iowa State Reporter, later to become the Waterloo Daily Reporter. James S. and Kate were born in Waterloo. Of the four children, two survive. William F. and James S. Parrott. Matt Parrott. the husband, died April 21, 1900. The only daughter died in infancy Aug. 19, 1878, and Louis G. died in February, 1911.

Mr. Parrott. in the course of years, became prominent in the affairs of the city and state. He was mayor of the city, state senator and lieutenant governor. At the time of his death he was president of the National Editorial Association.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p. m. in Christ Episcopal Church, Rev. Ernest B. Mounsey officiating. Burial will be in Fairview. The body is at the O'Keefe & Towne mortuary.
