WATERLOO, IOWA — Warren M. Wiele, 78, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village.

He was born July 9, 1934, in Muscatine, son of Lester and Inez Snyder Wiele. He married Jean Hammer on June 21, 1957, in Muscatine. She died Feb. 15, 2009.

He graduated from Grandview High School and attended Muscatine Junior College. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Wiele was an engineer and manager at John Deere PEC and Component Works for 33 years, retiring in 1991. He was a past board member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church and was instrumental in establishing and was a past school board member of Walnut Ridge Academy. He also was a past board member of Cedar Valley Red Cross and Friendship Village.

Survived by three sons: Gary (Michelle) of Ankeny, Randy (Katherine) of Dallas and Larry (Jody) of Waterloo; a daughter, Sandy Wiele of Peoria, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Preceded in death by a sister, Emma Lou Mettke; and three half brothers: Norbert, Ronald and Howard Cross.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Walnut Ridge Baptist Church or Friendship Village Foundation.
