WATERLOO — Kenneth Bern, 60, of Waterloo, formerly of Dike, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at the Harmony House Health Care Center.

He was born Sept. 12, 1952, in Grundy Center, son of Wilmer Roy and Ruth Ann Weiss Bern. On Sept. 22, 1979, he married Marcia Strohbehn in Dike and they later divorced.

Mr. Bern graduated from high school in Dike in 1971, then went on to Hawkeye Institute of Technology for auto mechanics. He worked as a mechanic for Stephen’s Dodge from 1973 to 1976, Denning Chevrolet from 1976 to 1979 and Karl’s Chevrolet from 1979 to 1980. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survived by a son, Nicholas of Ankeny; his mother, Ruth Gooden of Cedar Falls; three brothers, David (Kay) and Mike, both of Dike, and Dan (Tammy) of Cedar Falls; a sister, Kathy Bern of Seattle; and his former wife, Marcia McAdoo of Ankeny.

Preceded in death by his father; and stepfather, Sam Gooden.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Dike United Methodist Church, Dike, with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Engelkes-Abels Dike Chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
