Joan Petrea Sindlinger, 77, of Cedar Falls, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, March 14, 2008. She was born April 16, 1930 in Cedar Falls, daughter of Svend Marinus Jochumsen Beck and Fredericka Pedersen Beck. She was both baptized and confirmed at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa.

She married William W. Sindlinger on September 1, 1949 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Joan graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1947, and attended both Iowa State Teacher’s College and Grandview College.

She worked at UNI before her retirement. She was also half owner of the Brass Bucket Antique Shop in Cedar Falls. She was a member of Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, P.E.O. Chapter OF, Waterloo, Funtique Questors Club, and was a charter member of the Cedar Valley Danes.

Survivors include her husband; a son, William Dale Sindlinger (Ann Bergstrom), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Anne Petrea (Neale) Lehmkuhl, of Bloomington, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Flores Sindlinger of Lake Oswego, Oregon; and six grandchildren: William Tucker and Alexandria Sindlinger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Erik Christian and Laura Petrea Lehmkuhl of Bloomington, Illinois; and Sarah Christine and Joseph Matthew Sindlinger of Lake Oswego, Oregon; a brother Robert (Jean) Beck of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Joan was preceded in death by parents; a son, Matthew Parker Sindlinger (2002); a grandson, Samuel Parker Sindlinger (2000); and her sister Betty Uris McGill (2005).

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Danish Immigrant Museum, Elk Horn, Iowa and Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church.
