Kenneth “Ken” Ray Hoy, 59, of Incheon, South Korea, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Monday, April 21, 2008, in Incheon, South Korea of natural causes.

He was born November 13, 1948 in Cedar Falls, the son of Kenneth Heaver and Marjorie Eilene (Gersema) Hoy. Ken was a 1967 graduate of Cedar Falls High School. He entered into the US Air Force on May 22nd, 1968, and was discharged on May 21, 1974 as a Sergeant. Mr. Hoy received his Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Northern Iowa on Dec. 21, 1979.

He married Chong Man Kim in 1990, they later divorced. Mr. Hoy was a very popular and beloved teacher at several different schools in South Korea and Los Angeles, California. Most recently, Mr. Hoy taught students at the Palace Language Center in Incheon, South Korea.

Survived by his mother, Marjorie Hoy, of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Dennis (Carol) of Waterloo and Darrell (Jean) of Washburn; a sister, Jo Ann Hoy, of Cedar Falls; a step-daughter, Josephine Farnam, of Bozeman, Montana/South Korea; two nieces, Leah (Charles) Hoffman of Waterloo and Tracey (Corey) Huinker of Gilbertville; and his nephew, Travis (Valerie) Hoy, of LaPorte City.

Ken was preceded in death by his father.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the local chapter of the American Heart Association.
