WATERLOO — Marian Luella Beck, 96, of Waterloo, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born April 22, 1916, in rural Hudson, daughter of Robert D. and Alice Hubbard Kerr. She married William “Bill” Beck on May 27, 1941, in Eagle Center. He died March 8, 1986.
Mrs. Beck graduated from Waterloo West High School and earned a teaching degree from Iowa Teachers College (UNI), Cedar Falls. She taught in country schools for two years and later was a substitute teacher in the area. She also was a homemaker.
Survived by a son, Tom (Rosilee) of Waterloo; a daughter, Susan Jorgensen of Waterloo; a sister, Margaret Roderick of Mount Vernon, Ill.; two brothers, Robert (Mary Jean) Kerr and James Kerr, both of Tripoli; a brother-in-law, Bob Sinclair; a sister-in-law, Jeri Boland; four grandchildren, Donald and Daniel Jorgensen, and Brian (Beverly) and Amy Beck; seven great-grandchildren, Chrystian, Jonathan and Jade Jorgensen, Garrett and Brylee Beck, and Ashley and Jacob Hovey; and a great-great-grandson, Bryson Odell.
Preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Peter Beck; three sisters, Wilma (Wallace) Bode, Virginia Sinclair and Doris (Dave) Boland; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Hoepner and Jim Roderick; and a sister-in-law, Louise Kerr.
Services (note: service date changed due to weather): 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Eagle Center. Visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.
