WATERLOO - Robert M. Acker Sr., 78, of Lecanto, Fla., formerly of Waterloo and Bettendorf, died at home Monday, April 30, 2001, of natural causes.

He was born March 23, 1923, in Waterloo, son of Dr. Wesley H. and Gertrude McFarlane Acker. He married Geraldine H. Kies in January 1945 in Waterloo. She died Nov. 5, 1975. He married Muriel F. Kirk in June 1988 in Chetek, Wis.

Mr. Acker graduated from Iowa State University. He founded, owned and operated the Johnson Farms Dairy, Waterloo, for many years, retiring in 1964. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during World War II and the Korean War.

Survived by his wife; six daughters: Barbara Schmicher of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marge Burke of Davenport, Janet Eppard of Plano, Texas, Julie Willman of Iowa City, Catherine Padavich of Bettendorf and Susan DeFrieze of Eldridge; two sons, Robert Jr. of Ashburn, Va., and Joseph of Marion; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Sauer of Rochester, Minn.; and a brother, Dr. Richard Acker of Waterloo.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, with burial in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Citrus County Hospice or Genesis Hospice.
