WATERLOO — Norma Alberta Mittelsted Dunn Schurmeier, 92, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Friendship Village.

She was born Aug. 22, 1920, in What Cheer, daughter of Richard and Emma Rohrke Mittelsted. She married Willard J. "Woody" Dunn Sr. on Feb. 23, 1952, in Waterloo. He died Feb. 7, 1977. She then married Dr. Frederick A. Schurmeier on April 1, 1989, in Green Valley, Ariz. He died Feb. 6, 2000.

She graduated from What Cheer High School in 1938. She worked as a reporter for the What Cheer Patriot Chronicle and as a technical librarian at the John Deere Product Engineering Center for 38 years, retiring in 1980. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66.

Survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Marvin Sr.) Hess of Waterloo; two sons, Leroy (Marilyn) Dunn of Phoenix and Willard J. (Nancy) Dunn of Sacramento, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, James Morrow of Belle Plaine.

Preceded in death by two grandchildren; a sister, Elna Timmerman; and a daughter, Virginia Morrow.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with burial in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newhall. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, An Overton Family Service.

Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, Valley Lutheran School or Special Olympics of Northeast Iowa.
