LA PORTE CITY — Ruth Barker Redman, 99, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 17, 1913, in Grand Island, Neb., daughter of Cephas Horace and Nancy Jane Trammel Barker. She married Dale Redman on Sept. 2, 1934, in Des Moines. He died in 1968.

Mrs. Redman and her husband owned and operated LPC Dairy, where she worked as the bookkeeper until his death in 1968. She then worked as a secretary for La Porte City High School, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the La Porte City Presbyterian Church.

Survived by two sons, John (Barbara) of Waverly and Robert (HwaCha) of Bowie, Md.; two daughters, Nancy Redman and Susan Brust, both of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Andrew; two grandchildren; and a sister, Elsa Hoover.

Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, preceded by an hour of visitation. Prior to the service, private family graveside burial will be held at West View Cemetery, La Porte City. La Porte City Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
