WATERLOO, IOWA — Dennis Shaner, 60, of Waterloo, died Friday, November 30, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born June 19, 1952, in Waterloo, son of D. Clare and Claudia Crawford Shaner. He married Barbara Reiter on June 2, 1973, in La Porte City, and they later divorced.

Mr. Shaner served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed at John Deere for 31 years, retiring in 2007 as a supervisor.

Dennis is survived by a daughter, Heather Palmer of Hudson; two grandchildren, Dylan and Emerie Palmer; two brothers, Michael of Sausalito, Calif., and Scott of Winterhaven, Fla.; and two sisters, Teri Berry of Waterloo and Lori (Rob) Bolks of Springfield, Mo.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Prairie Lakes Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in West View Cemetery, La Porte City. Graveside military rites will be conducted by La Porte City USS San Diego American Legion Post 207, VFW Normandy Post 3983 and the Army National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund will be established.
