Joseph Charles Durnan, 86, of Waterloo died Monday, February 12, 2007, at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 26, 1921, in Fairbank, son of Charles and Veronica Fettkether Durnan. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School Fairbank. He was a Machinist Mate 1st Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was employed as a grinder at John Deere Tractor Mfg. Co. for 31 years retiring in 1972. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include four sisters: Dolorita Durnan of Minneapolis, Frances Schmadeke of Waterloo, Veronica (Jack) Cobb of Cedar Falls, and Angela Theisen of Cedar Falls; one sister-in-law, Grace Durnan of West Union.

He was preceded by his parents; one brother, Leo Durnan; one sister, Sr. Mary Valeria P.B.V.M.; two brothers-in-law, LaVerne Schmadeke and Bill Theisen.

Services will be at 10:30 am Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial at 1:30 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fairbank. Friends may call from 4:00-6:00pm Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 4:00 pm rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
