WATERLOO — Gladys L. “Toni” Tonn, 84, of Waterloo, died Monday, Nov. 12, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

She was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Independence, daughter of Paul and Emma Wenthe Tonn.

Ms. Tonn graduated from Independence High School in 1944, then earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Wartburg College, Waverly, and a master’s degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. She taught fifth and sixth grade for more than 45 years in Corwith and Postville, retiring from Black Hawk School in the Waterloo Community School System. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Survived by a brother, Charlie (Carolyn) Tonn of Monticello; a sister, Evelyn Tegeler of Fargo, N.D.; two sisters-in-law, Joan Tonn of Rowley and Marge Tonn of Jesup; several nieces and nephews; many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and special friend, Jane Sullivan of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Rudy, LeRoy and Paul Tonn.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to charity of the donor’s choice.
