WATERLOO — Dorothy Marguerite Theresa Laughridge Davis, 91, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Independence, daughter of Fergus John and Effie Kiggins Danehy. She married James Laughridge. He died in 1978. She later married Lewis Davis. He died in 2011.

Mrs. Davis worked at J.C. Penney Co. for many years. Over the years she was active in the Navy Mothers’ Group of Waterloo and in her churches in Iowa and Oklahoma.

Survived by three sons{ Robert (Cathi) and Jim (Diane) Schatz, both of Bradenton, and Fergus (Genie) Laughridge of Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Peg Smith (L.T.) of Urbandale; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Danehy of Independence; and a sister, Betty Ann of Hazleton.

Memorial gathering: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial at 11 a.m. in Garden of Memories Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held in Bradenton at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to food banks or to county extension services.

Dorothy was blessed with family who loved her and she had spent the last days of her life visiting family whom she had not seen in several years. She was an avid gardener from the time she was very young until her last days, gaining much pleasure from growing plants for food, beauty and curiosity.
