Paula McDermott, 82, of Waterloo died Thursday Sept. 27, 2007, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

She was born June 18, 1925 in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Emil H. and Pauline Rodenborn Pieper.

She married Richard F. McDermott on June 7 1947 in Fort Dodge. She was graduated from St. Josephs Nursing School in Fort Dodge and was employed as a Registered Nurse at Allen Hospital until retiring in 1976. She was the past President of the American Heart Association District and the past American Red Cross Disaster Chair.

Survived by her husband of Waterloo. a son Richard J. (Carol) of Cedar Falls; three daughters: Paulette M. (Jed) Poland of Cedar Falls, Christine E. McDermott of Wylie, TX, and Deborah A. Brown of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four brothers: Joseph Pieper and John (Betty) Pieper all of Marshalltown, Thomas (Mary) Pieper of Union, and Tim (Chris) Pieper of Waterloo; two sisters, Judy (Jack) Lunn of Marysville, CA, and Jean (Luis) Arroyo of Orlando, FL; a brother-in-law, Don Christenson of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Pat Pieper of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by her parents; a son Gary M.; a brother Dan Pieper; a sister Joan Christenson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South St. where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or American Red Cross.
