Miriam Joan (Tjebkes) Dorfman, 64, of Waverly died Saturday Sep. 22, 2007, at the Waverly Health Center. She was born March 30, 1943 in Allison daughter of Tom and Edna (Westendorf) Tjebkes.
She married Herbert Dorfman on October 29, 1971 in Cedar Falls. He died September 30, 2000.
Miriam graduated from Allison High School in 1961. She was the owner and manager of the Diet Center in Waverly for many years. At Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Waterloo she served as a board member Past President of the Sisterhood and an active member for many years. She was Past President of the PEO Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Past President of the Waverly Golf and County Club and served on the Waverly Hospital Auxillary. Miriam enjoyed playing Bridge reading and socializing with a wide circle of friends. Her every present sense of humor creative and artistic endeavors and sharp mind will be missed by so many.
Survivors include her mother of Allison; two brothers, Larry Tjebkes of Plainfield and Kevin (Susan) Tjebkes of Waverly; two sisters, Mary (Gregg) Leverich of Ankeny, and Lori (Mike) Wheeler of Minnesota and Florida; two sons, John and Scott Dorfman of Waverly; a daughter Lori (Craig) Foote of Lincoln, Nebraska; six grandsons: Logan Foote, Shane, Devan, Zachary, Jeffrey and Isaac Dorfman; a granddaughter Chloe Foote a very special cousin Brenda (Harlan) Hempen of Cedar Falls and many very close and supportive friends who played such a loving role in helping her manage her illness.
She is preceded in death by: her husband her father and her grandparents.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Sons Of Jacob Synagogue with burial in Beth Olem Section Of Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery both in Waterloo. There will be no visitation. Please no flowers.
