Thomas Wayne Black, 87, died Thursday September 20, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born June 8, 1920, in Owen Township Rockford, Illinois son of Samuel A. and Jennie M. Denney Black. He graduated from Rockford High School June 8 1934.

He married Marilyn A. Hagarty on May 20, 1978, at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. He worked as a safety administrator for John Deere Tractor Mfg. Co. from 1938 until his retirement in Oct. 1982. T.

Wayne is a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WWII as an intelligence sergeant of the 422nd Infantry 106th (Golden Lion) Division. He was taken as a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Combat Infantrymans Badge the Bronze Star Purple Heart and several other medals.

He is survived by his wife-Marilyn and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by a sister, Dorothy Black and A brother, Donald Black.

Services will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Bethel Presbyterian Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 pm Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation also for an hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday. Full military rites will be conducted by the Evansdale Amvets Post 31 and Waterloo Amvets Post 19.

Memorials may be made to the church or the American Diabetes Association.
