Sandra "Sandy" Ann Biretz, 63, of Waterloo died Friday February 13, 2009 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born January 19, 1946 in Waterloo, the daughter of James and Mildred Hildebrand Puhl. She married Merlin Biretz on April 21 1968 in Galena IL. They were later divorced.

Ms. Biretz worked at John Deere for 30 years as a secretary retiring Sept. 30, 2006.

Survivors include a daughter Aimee Lynn (Bryan) Corwin of Waterloo; a son Adam Jacob Biretz (Dustin Borseth) of Waterloo; two brothers, James (Betty) Puhl and Douglas (Bev) Puhl all of Waterloo; four sisters: Delores Steiner and Linda (Dennis) Heiser of Waterloo; Annette Crinigan of Evansdale; and Paula Floyd of Jesup; a step-daughter Renee Ann Furman of Waterloo; a step-son Paul Eugene Biretz of Minneapolis, MN; a grandson Isaiah Mark Corwin; three step-grandchildren: Matthew and Luke Furman and Larz Biretz; and many loving and special nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

Preceded in death by her parents, a son Robert Jeffrey, three brother-in-laws: Jerry Steiner, Bud Floyd, and Bill Crinigan Sr; a sister in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South St. where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. There will be no visitation at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
