WATERLOO — Patricia A. Friedl, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 1, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Francis M. “Butch” and Magdalen Kemp Nugent. She married James R. Friedl on June 4, 1946, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1940, and she was employed with Soderberg Optical for 12 years, retiring in 1984.

Survived by her husband; a son, James L. (Trudi) of La Crescent, Minn.; two daughters, Mary (James) Nadeau of Waterloo and Margaret (Steve) Bramble of Dallas Center; three grandchildren, Emily, Alice and Evan Friedl; two stepgrandchildren, Mollie and Erin Bramble; and a sister, Mercedes Stewart of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Philip; a brother, Leo Nugent; and a brother-in-law, Les Stewart.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. rosary by Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank or Cedar Valley Hospice.
