OBITUARY OF C. C. CALDWELL

Charles C. Caldwell, who died Oct. 24, 1896, was born Nov. 6, 1815, in Orange Co., N. Y. When a child his parents moved to Canada whore he resided until he was 20 years old. He was the youngest of a family composed of six boys and one girl and when he was 18 months old his father was killed by the falling of a tree.

In his youth Mr Caldwell worked on a farm and only went to school a few months in the year. Later on he learned the tailoring trade, which occupation ho followed until he was 30 years old.

Nov. 30. 1837, he was married to Miss Sarah A. Parsons and for 17 years he lived in Ohio. In 1868 they came to Iowa where Mr. Caldwell took up a farm of 435 acres in Fox Township. It was wild prairie, but he got it all under cultivation in a few years and erected a nice house,

In 1873 he rented his farm and moved to Belle Plaine with his family. Two years later they returned to Blackhawk County aud 12 years ago moved to Waterloo, where deceased has lived ever since.

He united with the Methodist church in 1858 and was a consistent member and died firm in the faith. He was highly respected by all as a man of honesty and integrity. A wife and three sous survive him, and of his father's family only ono brother, W. W. Caldwell, of Chicago, who attended him in his last hours, remains. Mr. Caldwell was taken, sick Oct. 17 and passed away Oct. 24 at 2:45 p. m.
