[Waterloo Courier, Wednesday, December 10, 1890]

Death of Mrs. Frank Neely.

The entire community was painfully shocked last Monday night by the report that Mrs. Frank Neely had been suddenly stricken down with heart disease, while going to her home about six o'clock that evening.

The rumor, which few credited at first, proved to be true. In the afternoon Mrs. Neely came down town to purchase some gifts with which to make glad the birthday of her daughter which occurred yesterday. She started home about six o'clock, stopping in Barber's Pharmacy about that time. She was accompanied by a youth from the fair who was assisting in carrying her parcels. As they were passing the Park Avenue entrance to the First Baptist church, suddenly, and without warning, she fell to the sidewalk and became unconscious.

The cries of the boy soon brought assistance and she was carried to the residence of J. P. Hummel, near at hand but although there were a few feeble attempts to breathe yet the source of life had ceased to pulsate and life itself soon became extinct.

Mrs. Neely was the widow of Frank Neely whose death on the 8th of May, 1899, created such genuine sorrow throughout this community. She was highly thought of by all on account of her rare social and intellectual accomplishments, and her intimate friends who knew her worth of character, loved her for her many endearing traits. The sorrow over her sudden death is shared by them in common with those who were bound to her by the nearer tie of kinship.

She leaves two bright little children, a boy and girl, to whom she was devotedly attached. Her mother, an aged lady, lived with her, and Fitzroy Sessions, of Cedar Falls, is a brother. She also has two brothers and a niece at Minneapolis, and other relatives in Massachusetts and Connecticut. They have been notified and are expected at the funeral.

The services will be held at the late residence and, though not definitely settled at this writing, will probably be held tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.

Mrs. Neely's maiden name was Mary E. Sessions. She was horn in Warren, Massachusetts, and came with her parents to Ohio some time about 1850. A few years later they moved to Cedar Falls where she was married to Frank Neely in 1871 and since that time she has lived in this city.
