Edgar "Ed" Hoppenworth was born on January 7, 1923 in Frederika, Iowa: the son of Carl and Wilhelmina (Brase) Hoppenworth.

He was married to Velma A. Green on October 17, 1945 in Nashua; she preceded him in death October of 1999. Ed was then united in marriage to Sally A. Peterson Jungweber at Ascension Lutheran Church.

He was an Automotive Instructor at Hawkeye Tech for 7 years, retiring in 1988. Ed also was a Sales Manager for Tate Cadillac for 27 years. He was a charter member at Ascension Lutheran Church, he also served as Deacon and maintained the lawn. Ed enjoyed square dancing, and was a caller for 17 years.

Ed passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab from natural causes at the age of 89.

Ed is survived by his wife Sally of Waterloo; two sons: Dennis (Susan) Hoppenworth of Estes Park, Colorado and David Hoppenworth of Waterloo; a daughter Sheila (Paul) Magee of Houston, Texas; three step-sons: Brad Barfels of Des Moines, David Barfels of Waterloo and Patrick (Lisa) Barfels of Urbana; a step-daughter Andrea (Clint) Gotta of Newton; six grandchildren: Wendy, Josh, Cyndi, Jason, Sandra and Kimmi; four step-grandchildren: Zach, Eric, Jeremy and Austin; eight great-grandchildren: Noah, Jessie, Jake, Tristen, Aleah, Daniel, Jaclyn and Camille; a great-great-granddaughter Jocelyn; three step-great-grandchildren: Ellie, Mackenzie and Lakyn; a brother Arnold Hoppenworth of Seattle, Washington and a sister Martha Bentley of Webster City, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Velma; a son Dean Hoppenworth in 2010; three brothers: Ted, Art and Walter and three sisters: Renata, Edna and Mabel.

Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
