Byron C. “Barney” Skiles, 75, of Janesville, died at home on Sunday, September 23, 2012. He was born May 30, 1937 in La Porte City, Iowa, the son of Byron and Elizabeth “Betty” (Hummel) Skiles.

He married Janet Helen Jordan on January 10, 1959 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Barney began as an apprentice electrician with Waterloo Industries, and later became plant engineer, retiring in 1998 after more than forty years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Jan, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Jeff (Patty) Skiles of Cedar Falls and Steve (Johanna) Skiles of Keller, Texas; three daughters: Gerri (Carl) Cable of Newton, Iowa, Cecee Smith and Janmarie (Dean) Cross, both of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren, Caylen and Curtis Cable, Nick and Derek Skiles, Josh and Lindsie Smith, Shane and Jake Skiles, and Lincoln and Haven Cross; two great grandchildren, Adreanna and Charlee Smith, and a brother, Jim Skiles, of Richmond, Texas.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Leslie Corson.

Service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial at Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Military Honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 4:30 p.m. Rosary Service will be conducted. Visitation also one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family
