Frances Elizabeth Shaw-Smith, 96, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 4, 1911, in Preston, Minnesota, daughter of Frank Gustave & Winnifred Losey Schwartz. She married Paul Shaw in Preston, Minnesota, on Nov. 18, 1933. He died in 1958. She then married Forrest Edward Smith on March 23, 1974. He died in 1982.

After high school she received her teaching certificate and taught for a few years.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy (Duane) Moore of Cedar Falls; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Shaw of Waterloo, seven grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild; and two brothers, Vernon (Johanna Schwartz of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Frank Schwartz of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by: a son, Francis Shaw, five brothers, Ernie, Robert, Arthur, Eugene and Richard Schwartz; three sisters, Nina Parker, Doris Scolari and Gertrude Morgan. Services at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo.
