Rev. Arnold Thalacker, 96, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home died Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 21, 1905 in Wautoma, Wisconsin the son of Paul and Ida (Wagner) Thalacker. He graduated from Wartburg College in Clinton, Iowa in 1927, from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque in 1930 and was ordained at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Richford, Wisconsin on June 15, 1930.

Rev. Thalacker married Erna Klein August 29, 1932 in Muscatine, Iowa. She died December 24, 1946. He married Lois Westwood May 29, 1950 in Mason City, Iowa.

He served congregations in Grinnell, Malcom, Monticello, Palmer, Des Moines, Tripoli, West St. Paul, Minnesota and Maynard. After retiring he served at Maxfield Township, Denver and then at Oran. He served on the Iowa Lutheran Social Welfare Board, the Lutheran Board at Iowa State, the District Radio Committee and was presently serving as a staffer on Social Welfare's Secretary of Aging Program.

Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Cedar Falls; four sons: William of Waterloo, James of Weslaco, Texas, John of Fort Dodge, and Mark of Woodbridge, Virginia; two daughters, Ruth Nelson of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and Sarah Howdon of Cedar Falls; twenty grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, three brothers: Arbie Thalacker of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Harold Thalacker of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, and Lloyd Thalacker of Independence, Wisconsin; and one sister, Loretta Specht of Monticello, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Naomi Vrhovnik, four brothers, Chester, Russell, Paul, and Edwin, and one sister, Hannah Thalacker.

Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls with burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Harrisville Cemetery, Harrisville, Wisconsin.

Memorials may be given to the Building Fund at St. John Lutheran, Wartburg College, Wartburg Seminary, or the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
