Eliza King Washington, 75, of Waterloo, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls, of natural causes.

She was born February 16, 1937, in Tchula, Mississippi, daughter of Square Sr. and Flora J. Love King. She married and divorced William Larry Simpson. She later married Richard Washington in 1972. He died in 1998.

Mrs. Washington graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor's degree in education and childhood development. She was assistant director of Black Hawk County Community Action Counsel, youth director at Jesse Cosby Center, director of the Anti-Poverty Program in Fort Dodge, retired as supervisor at John Deere in 2002; was owner and operator of Washington's House of Beauty for 22 years, and worked for Sam's Club for seven years.

She was a member of the Jubilee United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir, chair of the staff pastor parish relations committee, bookkeeper and treasurer. She was the first recipient of The Golden Diamond Jubilee Award for Brilliance and Clarity of Character in 2009.

Survived by: three daughters, Brenda Simpson Proctor of Olathe, Kansas, Dr. Gwendolyn Simpson Johnson (Wilfred M. Sr.) of Waterloo and Debra Simpson of Raymore, Missouri; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Washington Hollis of Visalia, California; a stepson, Richard Dean Washington of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Advenice "Ray" (Robert) Sisk of Milwaukee and Christine Coleman of Chicago; and three brothers, Charlie Dale of Waterloo, William (Ethel) King of Chicago and Kelsey (Odell) King of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Jonnie King, Walter Brown and Sammie Lee Dale Jr.; and a stepdaughter, Donnella Washington.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Payne Memorial AME Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Sanders Funeral Service, and from 9 a.m. until services Saturday at the church.
